Seawater erupting 20 metres through limestone at high tide — the most dramatic natural fountain on the Dhofar coast, best experienced in the monsoon season.
Dhofar Governorate
During high tide in Khareef, the blowholes at Mughsail detonate — seawater forced through limestone fissures by wave pressure erupts from holes in the platform 10 metres above sea level, producing a sound like a controlled explosion and a spray column that reaches 20 metres before the wind carries it.
Al Marnif Cave is the open-sided limestone shelter behind the blowholes — not a deep cave but a roofed platform above the sea that frames the Arabian Sea through its openings like a geological viewfinder. Viewing platforms and safety rails make this accessible to anyone without scrambling ability, and the walk between the cave and the blowholes is one of the most dramatic short coastal walks in Dhofar. Visit during high tide between July and September for the full experience.

Drive west from Salalah toward Mughsail Beach. Al Marnif Cave sits at the western end of the beach area, with parking nearby and a short walk to the cave shelter and blowhole viewing platforms.
