Oman's only mountain village with a spring blossom season — at 2,000 metres, surrounded by apricot orchards that flower every February.
Western Hajar Mountains
At 2,000 metres in the Western Hajar, Wakan smells different from every other village in Oman — in February and March the apricot orchards that ring the stone houses release a scent that carries across the entire valley. The village perches above the Ghubrah Bowl, its terraced gardens stepped down the slope below traditional stone architecture unchanged in generations.
Oman has mountain villages, but Wakan is the only one with a complete spring blossom season — the apricot trees flower simultaneously across dozens of terraces, creating one of the country's most unexpected visual events. Walking Route W25 passes through the village and continues along canyon edges with views to the Batinah Plain far below. February and March are the window — after the blossoms fall, the moment is gone until next year.
