About Nakhal Fort

A large fortification in Al Batinah built during the reign of Imam Said bin Sultan, featuring remarkable architecture including round towers designed to deflect cannonballs, spiked doors, and honey cauldron gaps. Built around and on top of a massive natural rock.

The views from the ramparts over the Batinah plains are breathtaking. Directly below the fort are the Ain Al Thawwara hot springs — natural thermal pools where you can take a dip after exploring. The combination of fort and hot springs makes Nakhal one of the best half-day trips from Muscat.
