About Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque
Oman's most iconic landmark and one of the most beautiful mosques in the world. Commissioned by Sultan Qaboos to mark his 30th year of reign, inaugurated in 2001 — a masterpiece of modern Islamic architecture in white marble, gold mosaic, and intricate calligraphy.
The main prayer hall houses a Swarovski-crystal chandelier weighing 8 tonnes and the world's second-largest hand-woven Persian carpet — woven by 600 women over four years. The mosque accommodates 20,000 worshippers and is one of the very few mosques in the Gulf open to non-Muslims.
