About Bahla Fort
A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 — one of the oldest and largest mud-brick forts in the world, built between the 12th and 15th centuries by the Banu Nebhan tribe. Bahla Fort overlooks a sprawling date palm oasis and the ancient walls of Bahla town stretch for nearly 7 miles.
Local legend says that jinn (spirits) built the fort in a single night when the tribe was under threat. After major restoration from 1988 to 2012 using traditional methods, the fort is beautifully preserved. Bahla is also Oman's pottery capital — workshops produce stunning handmade ceramics.
