About Nizwa Fort
Oman's most visited and most famous fort — a massive 17th century fortress in the ancient city of Nizwa with a giant circular tower 200 metres in diameter. Nizwa served as Oman's capital in the 6th and 7th centuries and the fort embodies the nation's greatest architectural achievement.
Inside, a superb museum displays traditional Omani weapons, costumes, jewellery, and honey trap defence mechanisms. The adjoining Nizwa Souq is famous for silversmithing and the extraordinary Friday morning goat, camel, and sheep market.
