About Jabreen Castle
Widely regarded as the most beautiful castle in Oman — a stunning 17th century palatial fortress built by Imam Bil'arab bin Sultan in 1675. The castle's painted ceilings are the finest in the entire country, with intricate geometric and floral designs in vivid colour.
Unlike the military forts, Jabreen was designed as a palace and centre of learning, with an astronomical observatory and library. Panoramic views from the towers stretch over desert plains and the Hajar Mountains. Remarkably easy to reach by normal 2WD car.
